Hi. I'm Kendra.
I have been teaching barre for years. I absolutely love it! I would teach 20x a week if I could ... but my primary job is being Mama ... and for some reason it’s frowned upon if you bring a couple of toddlers + a baby into a workout class (what a draggg). I am a stay-at-home-mom of three young boys Jax (3/2017) + Loch (5/2015)+ Rowan (9/2018) and thought of this idea as a way to pursue my passion ... during nap time . I also realized that if it’s hard for me, the teacher, to get to class- it’s gotta be hard for the students too! barreALLEY was born after I decided to host a facebook live class for my friends for fun. I left it up on my page for 72 hours to give people a chance to try it out. and then I deleted it. People instantly connected to the low-impact, challenging-but-doable, I've-never-sweated-so-much style and loved the idea of working out alone, without fear or judgment (or wasting time commuting to a gym). Most of all, they LOVED (and when I say love, I mean they kinda sorta hate) that I deleted the workout to encourage them to get 'er done.
I have been an “at-home-worker-outer” for many years, and I appreciate the time + money it saves me. I appreciate knocking out a 30 minute workout, in 30 minutes. Not having to interrupt someones nap, haul a diaper bag, strap kids in and out of carseats and sit in traffic in order to get a few minutes out of my day to sweat and do something for myself.
I am a thirty-something boy mom who just wants to feel good in my own skin. As a D1- gymnast, I've been intensely active my entire life. But being a gymnast, left my body beat up, and I needed to find a fitness format that was "nice" yet effective. I found barre and I'm obsessed with it (so obsessed, I started a business around it!) It's hard, it's fun, it's challenging, it's changed my entire physique, it's doable, it's total body, it works. In my spare time I like it to: wait, I'm a mother of a one + three year old, what's spare time?
What do you think about when you’re alone in your car? Nothing. I love to roll every single window down. No music, just white noise and wind <3
What were you like in high school? Painfully shy but very focused. I wore both backpack straps, and didn't wear jeans until Junior year... if that paints a picture for you.
How would you rate your memory? Horribly horrible. Pregnancy brain doesn't fade, it evolves into Mom brain, which is worse. If it's not written down, it's not getting done.
How would you convince someone to do something they didn’t want to do? I don't, I'll find someone who wants to do it.
What is your philosophy towards your work? I've always been a "doer" and I've always been motivated. I don't know everything, but I'll take the time to learn.
